USMC Travels:

Sad news to report -- received a XMas card from Ann Julias who advised that her husband Phil Julias passed away on November 14th -- from the gist of her letter he had been ill for a while, was hospitalized, returned home got an infection but didn't want to go back to the hospital -- from the sound of her letter I'm guessing it was cancer, but she didn't say what his illness was -- he died peacefully at home -- she included his obituary and I know some about Phil's military career so I'll take care of Taps article -- however, anyone who can add anything, please feel free to do so because I do have some blanks -- he was a good friend and one of the early ones in the MCCA, including, I believe, one of the incorporators.

Phil was born in Niagara Falls, NY in April 1942 and joined USMC after HS in 1961 -- he served in cryptologic field and was stationed at Co E Marine Support Bn, Kamiseya, Japan, in '62/'63 timeframe -- Phil got out for a short while and came back in -- he was with 1st RadBn in Hawaii and Sub-Unit 1 in Viet Nam -- not sure if he was still there when RadBn's flag moved to VietNam in '69, but he may have been -- Phil was a hot shot ditty chaser and a DF operator -- he was at Khe Sanh and Camp Carroll and may have been at Con Thien, although I'm not sure about that -- memory fades with age -- he went back to Co "E" MSBn in Japan and made the move with the company to Misawa -- he was also at 2nd RadBn and Co "B" in Edzell where he met and married Ann, with whom he had 3 daughters -- he served 29 years altogether and retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant out of Intel Div, MCDEC, Quantico, Va -- they were living in Leland, Idaho
