Petra

Leaving Jerash, we then stayed overnight at a hotel near Petra, including dinner and breakfast .  We proceeded to Petra early the next morning because we had to see Petra and go all the way back to the border to be through both sides of the border by 6pm.  This was not ideal.  By the way, we went through all of the same bureaucracy and taxes to leave Jordan and re-enter Israel as we had done the previous day - at least 1 hour's worth!  We really needed more time to explore Petra although we are extremely glad we paid the money and endured the trip for what we did see.

Petra was one of the real highlights of our trip.  You will see why in the red sandstone below.  Picture walking downhill in sand, barren to both sides.  Then you enter a tunnel-like crevice in the sandstone rock.  Its chilly and kind of claustrophobic.  As you exit, a view of the Treasury (see pictures) awaits you.  Its awesome and almost unbelievable.  One sentence of advice:  Don't even think about going to Petra without a local guide.
