Recent News About Me:
McKEE, Noel Wayne "Coach" Noel was born an only child to Charles and Henrietta McKee on March 23, 1931 in Los Angeles, CA. He passed away August 13, 2014 at the age of 83. During his childhood years the family moved to Iowa, then back to California. Noel graduated in 1949 from Grant Union High School in Sacramento. Answering a call to duty and adventure, he joined the Navy and after serving in the Korean War on a minesweeper received an honorable discharge in 1954. After discharge, he attended Grant Tech College and then on to Sacramento State. While at Sacramento State he played center on the Hornet football team from 1955-56. In the mid 60's Noel was an assistant coach for the semi-pro Sacramento Buccaneers football team. In 1969, he received his Masters degree from the University of Oregon. After graduation, Noel served as an assistant football coach at Highlands High School before going to Rio Linda High School, where he taught phys ed, was an assistant football coach and subsequently head football coach. He later became the Athletic Director for Rio Linda. Noel retired in the mid 90's from teaching, but continued officiating local high school football games for several more years. In 2004, he was admitted into the prestigious La Salle Club Coaches Hall of Fame. Noel savored adventure and anything outdoors. He was young at heart; he was 81 before he stopped bungee jumping and skydiving. He hated to give those things up. Up until a month before his passing, he was still golfing weekly with friends and running three or four miles a day. He also enjoyed painting, with "works of art" filling his entire apartment. Noel had many friends and he cherished each and every one, mostly coaches he worked with over the years and former students. Whenever there was an anniversary, graduation, wedding or other event - no matter the distance or the time required - he felt that if he were invited, he needed to be there. One could always count on him. He could be gruff on the outside, but had an enormous heart on the inside. As his protege Mike Morris put it "He was a man's man." Noel is survived by son Mike McKee, daughter Lisa McKee, son-in-law Ken Nicholson, brother-in-law Bob White and close friend Christi Rose, He will be greatly missed and loved always. A gathering of friends and family will take place at a date to be determined. Love you dad!!!!!
