Next on our trek west is Khe Sanh Combat Base. Here the government has
created a memorial to their success after 77 days of fighting in 1968. Khe Sanh
was thought by General Westmoreland to be THE action and he moved troops from
the coastal towns to ensure it was not lost. Instead, the '68 Tet Offensive was
expertly run by the North Vietnamese Army and they created Khe Sanh as the
diversion.
We briefly tour a former French prison near Lao Bao on the Western border
between Vietnam and Laos.
